What is Sensory Integration?
Our senses constantly receive information from the environment, and the brain’s ability to process, organize, and respond to these sensory inputs is known as sensory integration. This process happens automatically and varies from person to person. For example, while some people feel comfortable in noisy environments, others may find them overwhelming.
When sensory integration is disrupted, the brain struggles to interpret and manage sensory information effectively. This can lead to heightened stress, confusion, and difficulty responding appropriately to different stimuli. Research has shown that targeted sensory integration techniques can help improve the brain’s ability to filter and process sensory input, reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being.
A sensory processing disorder, sometimes called sensory modulation disorder, occurs when the sensory system is out of balance, causing an individual to either overreact or underreact to sensory stimuli.
MMS Medical has a comprehensive range of Protac Sensory products. All Protac products contain air-filled balls that, with deep, dynamic and sensory-stimulating pressure, stimulate the muscle-joint sense and the sense of touch and have a calming effect on our sensory system.
How do the balls work?
The brain has a fading out function that prevents the stimulation from being registered if the stimulation is too uniform. In order to continuously update the brain, the stimulation must change. The movement of the balls and the varying point pressures on the body stimulate the receptors in the deep sense of touch and the muscle-joint sense, which help filter and regulate sensory input.
This provides the user with a constant update, and the increased body awareness has a calming and reassuring effect, which forms our foundation for successful sensory integration. That is why the specially manufactured and silent balls are essential for Protac’s sensory stimulation aids.
The balls have different sizes, weights and ways of stimulating the senses. Choosing the right model of the Protac Ball Blanket ® does not depend on the user’s age, height or body weight, but rather on how the individual user’s sensory system works and how low it registers. There is no upper limit to how long you can use, for example. The Protac Ball Blanket ® or Protac MyFit ® . The proprioceptive sense cannot be overstimulated, and the products can be used for as long as it is comfortable and makes sense for the user.
